Manifesto
I have been working with the Union for a long time now - since my Freshers Week - and now I’m running for President of the institution that I’ve been a part of for nearly three years. While I've been at Heriot-Watt, I've done many things. I volunteered with the Ents Crew for over a year; I've been a society executive member since week 2 of my first year; I sat on the Association Council as Societies Representative; I've been a Freshers Helper and I've represented the university on a national level. On top of that, I'm a Class Representative for my course stream and I represented Heriot-Watt as an ambassador to younger students.
A lot of people will tell you it's experience you need. I say it's understanding, a willingness to work with you, instead of "for you". I'm currently President of one of the biggest societies at Heriot-Watt, one that attracts members long-since graduated from Heriot-Watt and some that never attended Heriot-Watt at all. I have to say, it's been interesting. Managing that many people, with so many conflicting points-of-view. Working out compromises is something I've had practise in.
My goals as President include the following:
H for Heriot-Watt
- Focusing on what matters right here, at this university rather than on national politics
- Making sure the University consults us on issues such as secretary reorganisation
W for Welfare
- Making sure that all of you are getting all the help you need, no matter which campus you’re on
- Revamping the website so that it’s accessible for all users
U for Union
- Ensuring a stable financial future for the Union without having a negative effect on any service
- Encourage inter-Students Association events to better our ties with other universities
S for Students
- Maintaining links with the National Union of Students
- Keeping in touch with you so that I’m doing what you want
- Representing you on all levels
- Ensuring the Union and the university cater for all students regardless of individual circumstances or campus
- Keeping Watt’s On in print, because having a student voice is important
A for Action
- Fighting for you!
